Bernard Prince
(by Hermann and Greg)
See also: Comic Errors

Bernard Prince is an ex-cop.  He inherited a small freight-vessel, called Cormoran.  He decides to quit his job, and "sail the seven seas", together with Djinn, his adopted son.  However, Bernard's natural sense for justice, his past as a policeman, and a lot of bad people make that he seems to attract trouble wherever he goes...

Nr. Cover Title Story
1 Cover Bernard Prince Generaal Satan
(General Satan)
Two stories in this one.  The first is where Bernard meets Barney Jordan, in a story about a crashed plane whose freight needs to be recovered.  It is in the jungle, upstream a river, and the Cormoran is the ideal boat for that.  But they are not the only ones after the freight - which is supposedly worthless - and what is that drumming sound they hear coming from the jungle...?
In the second one Bernard is sort of gently pushed (read: forced) to try and deliver needed weapons to a fort under siege.  His opponent is General Satan, as intelligent as cruel.  So they will have to use all their tricks to get the weapons on land, and once there, similar problems arise before they can get the weapons to the fort itself...
2 Cover Bernard Prince Storm over Coronado An engine break-down forces Bernard to look for the nearest harbor.  And that turns out to be a private harbor of a rich trader, an old acquaintance of them.  Just at that moment Guttierez, the local guerrillero, is brought in, captured.  To Bernard however this guerrillero doesn't look like the average freedom fighter, and when friends of Guttierez come in the night and invite Bernard to their camp, he gets confirmation...
3 Cover Bernard Prince De Hel van Suong-Bay
(The Hell of Suong-Bay)
In the small harbour of Lao-Todang in Asia, Bernard and Barney are arrested after false accusations.  It's clearly a set-up, but by whom, and why?  Luckily Djinn manages to stay free, and he can help them a little while they are being brought to the prison of Suong-Bay, the worst prison on Earth.  The first morning after their arrival there they manage to escape, but it goes a little too easy.  They have the feeling of being pawns in an orchestrated game...
4 Cover Bernard Prince Avontuur in Manhattan
(Adventure in Manhattan)
Twas the day before Christmas, and the Cormoran arrived in New York.  Unfortunately Bernard's customer was arrested minutes before he could pay for the cargo, and to top that the cargo is now blocked and they cannot even start looking for another customer.  They don't have any money, so they'll be eating a few beans for Christmas, and the weeks after.  The boat next to the Cormoran might bring a financially interesting solution, if Barney at least wants to play along in a little charade...
5 Cover Bernard Prince Brand in de Oase
(The Oasis burns)
When Barney returns to the Cormoran from town, he finds a few crates, an old motorcycle and a camel on the boat!  He wants to get rid of them, but they turn out to be their cargo.  They are a combination of relief materials, and the means to transport them, for some people in the desert.  They are in a desperate need for the goods, certainly now a civil war is causing all sort of logistic problems.  After a small incident at the coast our friends decide to bring the things while the guy from the relief organization can recover from his wounds.  Who will take the bike, and who the camel?
6 Cover Bernard Prince De Wet van de Orkaan
(The law of the Hurricane)
One beautiful evening in Tago-Tago, Barney polishes himself to go out.  He walks past a bar where obviously a fight is going on, but he walks on.  Until he hears the voice of El Lobo.  Once the fight is over El Lobo tells about the pearl-fishery he won with poker.  El Lobo doesn't tell about the warning he has received about the island...
7 Cover Bernard Prince Verschroeide Aarde
(Scorched land)
The Cormoran responds to a request for help.  Not for a ship in trouble, but to assist in getting people off of an island on which a giant forest-fire rages.  Bernard notices that it's possible that some people have taken an alternative road, which leads to a place where there will be no ships to pick them up.  So he suggests that the Cormoran and a few other smaller vessels go through "Neptune's Teeth" to the island.  Meanwhile he will try to get through the fire, to tell the people about the boats...
8 Cover Bernard Prince De Groene Vlam van de Conquistador
(The Green Flame of the Conquistador)
On their way up a river, the Cormoran is almost hit by falling rocks from what seems to be a mining company.  Upon arrival at the Morel coffee-plantation, they learn that the mining company is actually a group of workers of the plantation, lead by two Morel-sons.  Well, the family and its plantation may have its problems, but that's not the concern of Bernard and his friends.  That changes, when Tuxedo, the local criminal pays everyone a visit, and sets the Cormoran on fire...
9 Cover Bernard Prince Guerilla voor een Spook
(Guerilla for a Ghost)
The Cormoran cruises along a big fancy yacht where a party is going on.  Not everyone likes it though, since a giant explosion rips the vessel to pieces.  There are only a few survivors: the president of Monteguana and two of his body-guards.  The problems only start now, both for the survivors as for the crew of the Cormoran, as it is clear that whoever planted the bomb now wants to finish the job - and doesn't want any witnesses either...
10 Cover Bernard Prince De Hete Adem van Moloch
(Moloch's Hot Breath)
Barney volunteers to guard the boat while Bernard visits his "shipping company".  Barney's solitude ends soon when a bunch of crooks drop him overboard and steal the Cormoran.  At first it seems as if they just use the boat to go to a rendezvous and take a less visible ship, but the circumstances decide otherwise.  And to make the fun complete, the three crooks are infected with a rare microbe, and everything they touched may be infected too.  That includes Barney...
11 Cover Bernard Prince De Nevelburcht
(The Hazy Citadel)
A false order lures the Cormoran to an obscure oriental harbor.  Before they can leave again a bomb destroys the propeller, but minutes later they get a compensation, signed by the mysterious "Mr. Smith", whose name was on the false order.  A little later Bernard is picked up and brought to "Mr. Smith", who is Wang Ho, or General Satan.  He has an assignment for Bernard, an unusual one...
12 Cover Bernard Prince Doel: Cormoran
(Target: Cormoran)
What seemed a silly boating accident, was a succeeded attempt to get on board of the Cormoran without raising suspicion.  And now they are on board, they prepare everything for a long-distance murder.  Prince escapes however, and swims to the shore.  There he finds out that roads are blocked, telephone-lines are cut, and he understands the murder-attempt is better prepared than he thought...
13 Cover Bernard Prince De Narrenhaven
(The Madman's Port)
A routine job.  Go there, accompanied by a doctor.  He takes care of any wounded, if there are any, and Bernard and Barney take the ship to the nearest port, that's all.  But when they discover a body with a bullet-wound outside the ship, and a badly wounded armed man inside the ship, the job suddenly is not so routine anymore...
14 Cover Bernard Prince De val met de 100.000 spiesen
(The trap with 100.000 spears)

(By Dany and Greg)
Lombashi, where it all started for Barney and Bernard.  And again the Wadongos are causing trouble, be it with guns and grenades this time.  To escape from them a man flies in a small plane with his wife, their two kids and a neighbor.  Their fuel is used before they reach safety, so they are forced to land in a wilderness full of thorns.  Poisonous thorns...
15 Cover Bernard Prince De Terugkeer van de Cormoran
(The return of the Cormoran)

(By Dany and Greg)
The crew spends its time waiting for the new Cormoran in the Pacific.  Jordan even gets much closer to the true nature of some of the population than he had asked for.  But finally the wait is over, and the high-tech vessel is ready for its test-ride.  Unfortunately some crook has picked just that island to look for a new helmsman for his yacht...
16 Cover Bernard Prince De Dinamitera
(The dinamitera)

(By Aidans and Greg)
Damage to the ship that is transporting them forces a stop at Monteguana for 2 days.  That would not even be worth a note in their future memoirs, if Barney wouldn't be so opposed against the idea of going there, or against going ashore.  They don't seem to have a choice however, and then it becomes clear that Barney has been here about 22 years ago.  A local freedom-fighter, La Dinamitera, is a read-headed 22-year old, whose last name is Jordan...
17 Cover Bernard Prince Het Groene Vergif
(The Green Poison)
Bernard, Barney and Djinn are on a South-American river, in a boat resembling the original Cormoran.  It's a test-drive, since inside the ship nothing reminds of the old days.  They end up at Torre Perdida, a hotel annex harbour where the law doesn't really have much to say.  In the hotel they are approached by a man asking them to use their boat to bring some goods from a mine, a little upstream.  Well, he doesn't really ask anything, when you attach a mine to someone's vessel you don't expect a "No"...

Betelgeuze
(by Léo)
See also: Comic Errors

Betelgeuze is the second colonized planet, after Aldebaran.  Somehow there seems to be a link between both, and the Mantrysse seems to be that link.  But how?

Nr. Cover Title Story
1 Cover Betelgeuze De Planeet
(The Planet)
Betelgeuze seems a forbidden planet.  In this first story we meet strange creatures, just like on Aldebaran, and a very small number of colonists trying to survive in the valleys.  The rest of the planet seems nothing but desert.  The colonists seem very organized, but a tough set of rules, aimed at making the group grow as fast as possible, drives some people out to the desert.  And above them is an abandoned spacecraft, only serving as a bright spot in the night.
2 Cover Betelgeuze De Overlevenden
(The Survivors)
A team from Aldebaran is trying to figure out what has happened to the space-ship that headed for Betelgeuze.  Upon arrival they see the seemingly abandoned vessel, and manage to rescue two survivors - seconds before a weird computer problem forces them to make an emergency landing on Betelgeuze...
3 Cover Betelgeuze De expeditie
(The Expedition)
Lead by Kim a small and very varied group will travel upstream through a canyon.  They intend to find out if the iums are really as intelligent as some believe.  The group consists of teams from various backgrounds, and representing various points of view.  The result is constant tension and quarrels.  At the end of the third day Kim has a very special encounter...
4 Cover Betelgeuze De Grotten
(The Caves)
Kim and Hector are okay, but certainly not out of trouble.  The caves are a very hostile environment, to say the least.  Luckily they get some help from Inge and Steve, who have been combing the caves until they found them.  Steve doesn't survive it...
5 Cover Betelgeuze De Ander
(The other one)
Kim, Maï Lan, Inge and Hector are stuck on the river bank for two months now, and now that Hector's ankle is healed they should be able to travel and return to the others.  But that night Kim is called by the Mantrisse, and somehow now there is, unlike the previous times, aggression in the air.  She is even attacked, but then someone comes and rescues her.  Someone who only on first sight has some resemblance with humans...
