Just before he reaches the camp he gets caught, but his returning horse warns the other soldiers. Blueberry decides to go and find his body, and look for the president's answer. And he returns even with Graig, alive. The message gives permission to negotiate with Cochise - but finding him is easier said than done... |

Crowe decides to travel ahead of Blueberry and Jimmy McClure, to convince Cochise to listen to Blueberry. He does so, but while returning to Blueberry Quanah kills him. Still Crowe manages to let Blueberry know that the Apache are awaiting arms and food, and when that arrives their position will be so strong they won't want to negotiate. So Blueberry has no choice but to try to stop that convoy before it reaches Cochise... |

McClure convinces the people from the town that Blueberry would be the perfect man to be a temporary sheriff... |

Thanks to the revolt of the Indians the camp of the rail-workers is now completely isolated. When someone sets fire to the food supply, the situation becomes very tense. Blueberry will try to get through the surrounding Indians, and send a train with food and the wages of the workers. This is needed to prevent them from leaving, and getting killed. But Steelfingers is still out there, and he cooperates with the Indians: they get the ammunition, and he gets the money that the train is transporting... |

After Blueberry hid the $300,000 he is on his way to General Dodge at the railroad. But a few miles before his arrival there the Indians, accompanied by Steelfingers, capture him. He is forced to tell where the money is, but he is winning time. Meanwhile McClure and Copperneck fake a telegram to tell the local garrison that an army is on its way. They hope that the (false) rumor will be heard by Indian spies, so that the besieging Indian troops will think twice before attacking the railroad-camp. But will they be in time...? |

Blueberry has been assigned the roll of Marshall of a little dusty village. During a fight in the saloon he puts a strange German in jail, who claims he is the owner of a gold-mine. He has the reputation however of having fooled and killed several people for this story. He nearly escapes a lynch-party, and he convinces Jimmy McClure to accompany him just before two bounty-hunters arrive. Blueberry is forced to chase the German and Jimmy, since the German was actually in jail, and technically Jimmy helped him escape... |

Chihuahua Pearl | A message finds the president of the United States, after several people died for it. The response is swift, and the one living soldier who is already involved in it, Blueberry, is told to volunteer to accept the task the government gives him. Not an easy one: in Mexico a former soldier from the former Confederated States, the Southerners, knows of a gold-treasure meant to finance a new army against the Northerners. All of a sudden a lot of parties are interested in the treasure, and no wonder, it's worth US$500,000... |

Now Finlay and his jayhawkers, ánd Vigo and his soldiers, ánd the governor and his men are after Blueberry. It's the governor who wins, and Blueberry is sooner in the fort than he wanted. But at least he can look for Trevor from the inside, though he cannot do so unwatched. Meanwhile Jimmy McClure and Redneck have arrived, and are looking to rescue Blueberry, and out of sheer necessity they have to do so together with the jayhawkers... |

Trevor and the jayhawkers are in Tacoma, looking for the gold. Blueberry, McClure, Redneck and Chihuahua Pearl are supposed to be in the cave, but they manage to get out just before the Mexicans find them. They even manage to get the horses of the Mexicans, so now too they can go to Tacoma. In that little ghost-town Trevor has come to his end by the hand of a poor peasant, who took his boots. But Pearl knows that his boots hold a clue to the true location of the treasure, and apparently the jayhawkers haven't found it yet... |

For six months now the commanding officer is trying to make him tell what he did with the gold, and he doesn't really use humane methods. Blueberry is fed up and pretends to give in. While being escorted to the south, the train he is traveling with is held up. Blueberry takes advantage of this and escapes. The hold-up however was no coincidence... |
