What's new on this site?

25 dec 2007 1400 comics in the database, and 1800+ bloopers.
17 nov 2007 I've been to Gothenburg (Göteborg) in Sweden, and I've got some pictures to prove it.
20 sep 2006 I've been to Stockholm in Sweden, and I've got some pictures to prove it.
24 apr 2006 I've been thinking of doing this for, oh, at least 3 years. And finally, finally I did it: photos and comic errors no longer open in a separate window, but each picture or each error has a page of its own. In the end it took two evenings to write, troubleshoot, correct and tune everything. Why on Earth did I wait this long...
4 apr 2006 Last weekend the final tuning of the Dutch translations of the comics was finished. One script, one database to maintain, and everything that is comic-related in (so far) two languages.

And today the 67th book review (Tortilla Flat by John Steinbeck) was added, together with a small biography of John Steinbeck.
1 feb 2006 The visible differences may be minor to you, but under the hood there has been quite an evolution.
  • A new hosting provider, and finally my own domain: Jim-on-the-Web.com!  Jim-on-the-web.bravepages.com will stay (at least for a while), but it will no longer be updated, and since I'll end the payments you'll start noticing ads and popups - but only on that "old" location, Jim-on-the-Web.com will never have any popups.
  • The comics section has been completely renewed.  Rather than having some 90 separate HTML files, there is now 1 database and a handful scripts.  I sure hope this makes life a lot easier for me.
  • One of those scripts is a mailing script (for reporting comic errors), so that should avoid having to use a free service.  Over the next weeks other feedback forms should be replaced as well.
2 oct 2005 Oh dear, it seems like forever since I wrote anything here.  I guess it's because I do update and so, but there are no earthshaking changes.  Time for a roundup.
12 nov 2002 It's been a long time since I wrote something here, but that doesn't mean a lot hasn't happened...  Just a quick list of some items that were added, changed or improved:
  • Using CSS to reduce the size of every page, and to make the look-and-feel more consistent.
  • No more frames, on the English pages at least.  The others will follow soon.  This way there are less problems for linking to the correct page, ánd I get a better view of how people ended up here.  The downside is that I have to have a counter on every page, and that may make the page seem to load slower.
  • The Comics page has a quick overview of how many comics and errors there are.  This should give you an easy way to see if there is a change since your last visit.
  • There are more than 740 errors in comics now!  (And counting...(-:)
  • A few more pictures.
  • I am listed in ADBD (Annuaire des Bandes Dessinées), a web directory for comic related sites.  On the Comics page there is a box where you can give this site a rating in that Directory.
3 jun 2002 I added some "Tell a Friend" forms.  To tell your friends about this site :-)
25 may 2002 Back from Brainshare 2002, in Barcelona.  Annika and I went a bit ahead to explore the Provence in France, and of course we explored Barcelona too!  Some of the pictures we took are in the photo album.
15 may 2002 I joined the Nederlandse Strip Webring!  It's a webring for Flemish or Dutch sites doing something about comics.  You'll find the navigation bar on the Dutch "Comics" page.
6 may 2002 William Golding's page is ready.  OK, I admit, only one book, that was easy :-)
1 may 2002 Live!  Far from complete, but thanks to Annika the most important Swedish translations are there, and the temporary front-page (saying "Coming Soon") is now replaced with its final version.
26 apr 2002 I joined the I got my nose in another book webring!  To be honest, for the time being I got my nose in front of a PC mostly, but that won't go on forever.  You'll find the navigation bar on the "Books" page.
Why do I pick these rings, and no others?  Well, for starters they have a ringmaster: not all rings have, on the contrary.  Second, I checked a few sites in the ring, and they sort of do what I do - not much bookshops for example, I don't fit in there.  And third: all sites have a navigation bar for this ring.  Would you believe I found rings where the ring-owner doesn't even have a navigation bar?  What's the point of calling it a "ring" then?
26 apr 2002 I joined the Readers Ring!  Another reader's ring, full of people discussing what they like, and why.  You'll find the navigation bar on the "Books" page.
25 apr 2002 I joined the Avid Reader webring!   People in this ring obviously have a passion for books, and they share it via the web.  Well, that's me!  You'll find the navigation bar on the "Books" page.
20 apr 2002 I joined the CNE Resume webring!  This is a ring of Novell NetWare professionals, holding at least the CNE certificate (Certified NetWare Enineer).  The navigation bar can be on one page only, otherwise I had to subscribe for each language and I thought that would be a bit silly, so you'll find it only on the English "Professional" page.
10 apr 2002 The Dutch pages are there.  Almost at least, I'll be forced to wait with the comics and errors in comics until the English version is more evolved, to avoid having to translate the same page twenty times.
26 feb 2002 We're on, the BravePages are configured and the first files uploaded.  It will be a while though before going really "live", but the beta is running
