From a Buick 8 - Stephen King

Cover From A Buick 8 (Stephen King) Long awaited, the title of this book raised some eyebrows.  Is Stephen King repeating himself?  Christine Revisited?  or God forbid, a sequel?  Fortunately, nothing of this all.

Ned is 18.  His father just died in a horrible accident, and he tries to keep his memory alive by doing chores at the barracks of Police Troop D, i Western Pennsylvalia.  He slowly learns what policework really is, he learns how to handle the dispatch, even if becoming a real full-time member of the troop is not really his goal.  One day his chores bring him to Shed B, a place dedicated to what looks like an ordinary car, a Buick.

But it is not an ordinary car.  In fact, it cannot even drive.  Well, technically it cannot.  Ned asks about the car.  How it got there in the first place, but soon that story is not enough.  the more he hears the more he wants to know, and the more he knows he notices there is simply not enough to know.

Those looking for the average scary horrible Stephen King novel will be a tad disappointed.  This is not Christine II, this is not a hint to the secrets of the Dark Tower, though some will find clues because they want to find them.  Odd, horrible and dangerous as the happenings are, the real story is about accepting.  Accepting that sometimes things are, sometimes things happen, and looking for a reason or an explanation is no use.

I was waiting for things to start happening, and it took even longer than in Dreamcatcher.  But gradually that hunger for action was replaced by the joy to know there doesn't have to be a monstrous scheme behind everything, this story will not give me the whole explanation in the end. This story just is, it tells about the people, how we have to go through things, how we have to learn to accept.  And for me that was a very pleasant discovery.
