Everything's Eventual - Stephen King

Cover Everything's Eventual (Stephen King)Some time has passed since the last collection of short stories.  I can imagine there is a shrinking market for this, more and more literary magazines have to stop.  Still stories bubble up, and King is the type of writer that lets them come, and treats them well.

The mix is varied, and I don't refer to the quality of them.  The "worst" one is still good, and the better ones are excellent.  The first two stories are among the creepiest ones I've ever read.  And as usual, not because they were littered with creatures from other worlds, ghost, vampires, you name it, but because they were not there at all.  Because they could happen to me, tomorrow.  The variation of the mix comes from their subjects, which are subjects we do and don't expect from Stephen King.  It feels a bit as if he no longer feels pushed into the framework of this or that style or type or subject, and that is refreshing.

The fans of the Dark Tower series will be happy to find the Little Sisters of Eluria are included, a story that can be situated just before The Gunslinger.  The more fanatic ones will probably (want to) find all sorts of clues and links in the others, but according to me the stories were just that: stories.  Unrelated to anything, which makes them a read worth while on a rainy afternoon.  Or a sunny one.  Or an evening, or wherever whenever you like.  But do read them, they are good.
