I was walking around in Forsviks Bruk, an industrial museum in Forsvik (Sweden) about the different stages of the usage of waterpower there during the last few centuries. In the mill I was struck by what I think is some kind of an old “gearbox”, a spot where all sorts of leather belts lead to the different machinery. I noticed the wheels, all different in size and shapes, curves everywhere. I think I was mostly struck by the beauty of the wheels, made in a time where efficiency wasn’t the only factor taken into account when designing something.
