A good old western story. Jerry's age makes him the perfect hero for a boys' story. Including bad guys, Indians, ranches, Mexicans, deserts, saloons, you name it. Great entertainment.

Jerry rides through the woods one evening, near the American-Mexican border. He meets a Mexican who tells him he is running for his life, since a group of ranchers, lead by Black Jack Barton, wants to kill him. They think he, like all Mexican vaqueros, belongs to a gang of cattle-thieves. Jerry helps him escape, and is later asked by the sheriff to help him investigate the case of the cattle-thieves. And that leads him to Mexico, where he will meet Panchito, the Mexican, again. And where he gets shot...

Pancho's horse got hurt, and Jerry is looking for the nearest ranch to exchange it for another. So he stumbles on some crooks trying to extort some money from farmers. He receives a blow on the head though, and the crooks get away, with money that was supposed to be ransom for a kidnapped girl. Jerry and Pancho decide to give the farmers a hand in trying to find the bandits.

Pancho finds Jerry selling all sorts of stuff to the Indians. One of his first encounters almost ends bad, but luckily then Pancho was near. Jerry hasn't made a friend though... Jerry explains why he suddenly travels around as a trader: he is looking for a yourng woman that was captured by the Indians. Which? Where? Unknown...

Since he had no news about Pancho, Jerry accepts two jobs at the same time that enable him to go to Mexico: one as a reporter, the other as transporter of sewing-machines. He manages to cross the border without any trouble, but ends up in the middle of a revolution. The police stops him, and then he discovers he's not transporting sewing-machines, but rifles. Which is enough for him to be executed...

A family is killed by Indians in the mountains. A man returns to town with an arrow in his side. Proof enough to cause bloodshed, but mostly among the soldiers that wanted to drive the Ute-Indians north. This allows Jerry to convince the Ute to leave their grounds voluntarily, on the condition they can return when there is proof for their innocence. Because that is what Jerry believes...

Jerry has to interrogate an inmate. In the prison a man asks to talk to Jerry. He can convince Jerry that his conviction is unjust, and Jerry starts an investigation, which will lead him to unusual grounds for him: the border area near Canada, in wintertime.

Jerry and Pancho witness a hold-up on a stage-coach. They do what they can, and chase the bandits away. One wounded man is killed by the bandits, afraid that he might speak. Still, there is nothing of value in the coach, so Spring presumes it's something else they are after, or rather, someone else...

The sheriff receives a letter from his brother Jeremiah, asking for legal advice. Since he cannot go himself, Jerry proposes to look into the matter. He finds three quarreling old-timers and the grand-daughter of one of them. But before the day is over one of the three has disappeared...
 
9 Cover Fort Redstone Fort Redstone Jerry and Pancho are asked to assist at Fort Juniper, to find out what the problem is with the Indians near fort Redstone, 120 miles to the north. For some reason the friendly attitude changed recently, and Jerry intends to look into the cause for this change...

Right after a rodeo a lawyer from New York asks Jerry to help him find the lost grandson of a wealthy man. Jerry accepts, but he doesn't know that behind his back the assistant of the lawyer is trying to prevent him from finding the young man. So Jerry first encounters someone looking for trouble in a cantina, and later he is directed to a fake grave to make him believe that the future heir has died many years ago. But this only makes Jerry believe even stronger that the man is not dead...

Near the place where Jerry and Pancho camp an Indian is shot down. Before they can bring him to a physician he dies. Circumstances seem to indicate that a farmer, Coleman, has done it, but he denies. The Yaquis take him with them however, since they cannot trust the justice of the white men. Jerry and Pancho can free him only just. But then the search for the truth begins..
 
12 Cover El Zopilote El Zopilote A man approaches Jerry and Pancho, and asks them if they would like to help him find his brother back. The brother is being held captive by some Mexican bandits, in exchange for a ransom. Jerry accepts, but first goes and checks the man's story. And it seems that the man who is being held hostage, does not have a brother, but is wanted for a bank-robbery. The money has never been recovered...

Jerry hasn't heard anything from Pancho in two months, and he's getting a bit restless. He will ride towards the stagecoach to pick up Chico, but Chico has a horse now and races ahead of the coach. They travel together, and at a small town they decide to rest for a few days. When they show Pancho's picture and ask if people know his friend, Jerry is arrested and almost lynched, since Pancho is known as a wanted criminal there...

Jerry Spring and Jim Barret get the job of catching wild horses for the army, in Montana and Wyoming. They each pick a state, and Jerry will be searching in Wyoming. Since the pay is per head Barret doesn't wait with making the search hard for Jerry by setting up the Indians against him. After Jerry saves a young Indian boy the mood changes and the Dakotas will help Jerry. What he doesn't know is that they will chase horses in Barret's territory...

Jerry and Pancho arrive in Great-Falls, just at the moment a man is killed. A fleeing Indian is immediately suspected. Jerry catches the man and he is put in prison, but the same night a mob tries to lynch him. When Jerry and Pancho intervene the Indian manages to escape. Jerry and Pancho chase the Indian, and with a trick they can grab him. But that was the easy part...

Pancho is drunk in a cell, waiting to be tried and hung. A lawyer is trying hard to prevent this, but without success. So the lawyer just kidnaps Pancho, who is to drunk to realise what is really going on. A posse chases them, but in a nearby canyon the lawyer and Pancho fall in the water and are carried away rapidly. The next day Pancho wakes up and finds himself alone in a deep canyon. He finds Jerry, and then a well-dressed girl invites them for tea at the bottom of the canyon..?

Jerry and Pancho travel near the Mexican border. One day they are asked to deliver a letter to a European that is looking for gold in the mountains, sort of along their trail. When they arrive there the man is under siege: Dos Dados and his gang are trying to get the gold from the mine. Jerry and Pancho intervene...

Jerry is sent to Fort Wood, where a hot-headed commanding officer seems to manage to end what seemed like a solid peace with the Indians single-handed. Upon arrival he's just in time to help the last remaining soldiers escape from the fort, chased by the Indians. They drive the soldiers towards the desert, a route of which the soldiers know they shouldn't take it. In the desert the confrontation with the equally hot-headed Little Gun, the Indian leader, is inevitable...

On their way through the hills Pancho and Jerry bump into One Single Arrow, an old friend. He invites them to his rancheria, but they arrive only just in time to chase a few bandits away. The next day Pancho and Jerry meet Don Ramon who is in prison because he refused to give horses to the Rurales, who had requisitioned them to fight the same bandits. Jerry decides to try to get the bandits his way...

It's a dark and rainy evening, but even if Sandy doesn't know the two strangers at his door his hospitality towards Jerry and Pancho is warm. They spend the night in the barn, but they don't get much sleep: around midnight a group of masked men come and threaten the black Sandy. They hadn't counted on Jerry and Pancho's presence though. Later in town Jerry notices that the sheriff is not really interested in finding the klansmen. Jerry seeks the help of one of the candidates in an election to get rid of the klan...

Left alone in the desert Pancho and Jerry almost lost hope of ever getting out of it alive. Luckily an old friend finds them. Back in town they recognize the crooks that stole their weapons and money and left them there, and they take revenge. The crooks' employer fires them and hires Jerry and Pancho, to take a wagon load of supplies to the Rio Santana. But those two crooks are preparing to pay Jerry and Pancho, and their former employer, back...

Jerry arrives in Tucson, just in time to stop the lynching of an Indian. This doesn't make him any more popular with some people in Tucson, but that doesn't stop him from taking on his job as a councellor for the bureau of Indian affairs. At first it seems to go well, the reservation is doing so well other tribes come of free will. But a murder changes it all...
