This spring we were in France, in the area of Tours (“La Tourraine”), where a few hundred years ago French rich people built lovely castles at or near the river Loire. Quite some of them pretty pompous, just showing off how wealthy or powerfull or whatever the owner was at that time – but they did build lovely stairs here and there. This one is in Château d’Azay-le-Rideau.
